NORAD to Secure NASA- SpaceX Launch
On 9 November 2020,NORAD conducted an air defence exercise over Florida.It was in preparation for the launch of the NASA-SpaceX Crew-1 Mission to the ISS from Launch Complex 39A, Kennedy Space Center.It will be the first Crew Rotation Flight on the Crew Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket.*
Participating in the range security drill were the US Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon;DHS Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations Superking Air 350; and Civil Air Patrol Cessna C182.The night launch is slated for 14 November 2020 at 7:49 pm EST.*
Members of Crew-1 are NASA astronauts
COL Mike Hopkins,USAF,Crew-1 Commander;
CDR Victor Glover,USN,Crew-1 Pilot;
Mission Specialist Dr.Shannon Glover,PhD Space Physics; and
JAXA astronaut Mission Specialist Soichi Noguchi, Space Shuttle Program and spacewalk veteran.*
One of the main focuses of their research will be crew health on long duration spaceflight,such as to Mars.They will also conduct an evaluation of the cooling system for the new NASA spacesuit, the Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU), which is to be used for spacewalks and planetary body exploration.*
