Brilliant Jump:NATO's Tripwire Force at the Ready
Exercise Brilliant Jump II final phase is currently in work in Lithuania. This second phase of the drills began on 28 October and runs until 6 November. It is being used to certify the Very High-Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) in its mission of quickly deploying thousands of troops and their equipment during a crisis.Lithuania was chosen to signal NATO's commitment to defending the Alliance's Eastern Flank. The drills showcase the VJTF's mobility and force integration capabilities.A number of tanks and other vehicles are being moved about in the Area of Responsibility.*
This final phase is a deployment phase over land.It seizes opportunities for NATO and Allied nations to sharpen warfighting skillsets by focusing on high-end capabilities.A major aspect of the exercise is to train the processes and coordination with participants from the other services to ensure smooth multi-domain operations.*
Troops and equipment are being deployed from the Czech Republic, Poland and Spain by road, rail and sea, mainly to the Pabrade Military Training Area, Lithuania.Land units involved include a Brigade HQ; Spearhead Battalion; Special Operations Forces;and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Task Force (all from Poland); Mechanised Battalion from the Czech Republic; Mechanised Company from Lithuania; and an Infantry Battalion from Spain.
The drills will ensure that the VJTF is ready to deploy quickly and, simultaneously, to practise/enhance logistic interoperability with Allies and Partners.*
When BrJu II-phase 2 concludes, parts of the VJTF will take part in the Lithuania-led Exercise Iron Wolf.*
This year, the focus is on planning and conducting an early deployment of forces in the Baltic Sea Region.BrJu II-phase 2 is led by Multinational Corps North-East (MNC-NE).It centres on the readiness of the Force and their ability to arrive in a timely and capable manner at their destination,NATO said.*
